I am interested in taking it up as a bit of a weekend hobby. Also if anyone knows of any tracks in Adelaide would be great!

  1. First thing to do is find a place to race. Depending on where you live, there may not be any kart tracks nearby.(Horrible thought!) If you are having trouble finding a track, try and find a kart shop. They’ll point you in the right direction. Attend a karting event and see which class appeals to you the most. Once you pick out which division you want to run with, then it’s time to get out your money, buy some safety equipment, (helmet, neck brace, etc) and purchase a kart. You’ll also have to give some thought about getting the kart to the events and back home again. A pickup truck, or a small trailer can handle it. It’s a sizeable investment to make, so be sure you’re going to do it for a while.

I would go to an indoor kart track a couple or so times just to see if it suits you. The speed difference beween indoor karts and outdoor karts is huge though. 2 stroke karts are very very quick.

If you’re still interested buy a secondhand Kart that hasn’t been crashed, say a season old and in a cheap series.

Going to a local kart meet will give you a large amount of insight and most people are helpful if you are a novice.
