Start here: go to the FAQ (look on the left side of the page)

and here:

and here (has a directory of tracks so you can find one near you)

and here

After you've done some reading, go to your local track and watch some races. Tell anyone there that you're thinking about getting into karting. Usually that's all you have to say, karters are a great bunch who will help you a lot. At age 13, you will be in a Junior class which is age 12-15.

A decent used racing kart is going to cost you $2000-3000, plus another $500 or so for the required safety gear, and another couple hundred for some tools, a starter, and a kart stand.

Theres a couple things that are very important in kart racing:

1) Local support - find out what classes and what chassis are being run at your local track. There's lots of different ones out there and you want a local kart shop to be able to help you.

2) Don't buy off Ebay or similar sites. The classified section at ekartingnews is, I would say, a safe place to buy from.

If you have any more questions, email me & I'll help you all I can. Good luck and have fun!!

Karting is probably the best way to go if you want to get into racing. First, practice with rental karts at a track near you for a while, to get the general hang of it and see if you want to keep at it. If so, you might want to join a local club to get more serious. Generally, where there's a track there's a club, and they will be able to help you with anything from there. Then all you'll have to do is win races :)

Remember though that karting is an expensive sport!
